Your loneliness is killing me...
You know when people on the bus have really bad headphones that let a lot of the sound out so you get subjected to whatever it is that they're listening to? This morning I was riding to work and while we were stopped at a light, I heard the tell-tale sounds of Britney Spears emanating through the bus.
I had to turn around to see who it was that could be listening to "Hit me baby one more time" at such a loud volume and expected to see a tween-ager bopping along. However, to my surprise it was a man seemingly in his late 40s. At the next light as the noise of the bus disappeared, I heard it again except that this time it was accompanied by the sound of the dude singing along! I looked again and he was TOTALLY into it! tapping his feet, a little air-drumming, and that sort of whispery, half-audible singing you do when you're wearing a walkman.
I give the guy credit - you have to have a lot of balls to get *that* into such an album and not give a shit who knows it.
Late in the day update:
I got on the bus to come home this afternoon and found the only open seat. Right behind me was a woman talking on a celphone and here's the first thing I heard her say: I have no idea what to play for those kids. Kevin said to bring Britney Spears, but I think they want to hear Sesame Street.
Man, that's weird.
