Fall has arrived

The minor league baseball season is now over for me. I guess I'll turn my attention to the majors now - and who will win the AL Wild Card. Also there will be plenty of rock shows, reality TV, and other mindless pursuits.

Also some time devoted to two new topics of interest to me: why some people think that organic farming is going to cause starvation around the world, and why people in this town are obsessed with vehicles.

The former has peaked me because I have taken to eating more and more food that is produced without pesticides. I have experimented with a few different things and I have found that it's actually pretty easy to eat well for not much more money than one would normally spend, but to buy things that contribute less to the destruction of the natural world. That, and it mostly tastes better. However, there are people who just think that it's wrong to do that, and that amazes me.

The latter is because people in Winnipeg are not only the worst drivers on Earth, but they insist on feeling superior to people who choose human-powered forms of transportation. While I drive a vehicle with a less-than-stellar fuel economy, I also like to walk and to ride a bike. I have had some close calls lately with cars while on foot and on two wheels, and it really pisses me off.

Last night we were almost run over in a crosswalk (again!) and the people in the offending car had the audacity to scream at us for being in the "wrong place." Something needs to be done about this, something needs to be done...

Also, it has been five years and two wars since planes flew into the World Trade Center. Are we safer now? Somehow I don't feel that way. Weird.

What a prick!

Do you ever get in on-line arguments? Last week on a board I frequent I finally got sick of this guy and told him exactly what I thought of him. There were some sparks, and some choice words exchanged, and ultimately we both feel we've won. Now I can't wait to keep picking on him. Because he's a 'Tard.
